This week marks the introduction of the 2017 Monarch Award books in the library. These books are nominated by educators, parents, students, and the community. Only Kindergartners through Third Graders are able to vote for which book wins the award in March. The name Monarch was chosen because of its familiarity to K-3 children and to symbolize the growth, change and freedom that becoming a reader brings. The Monarch is designed to encourage children to read critically and become familiar with children's books, authors and illustrators.
On Wednesday September 14th, a local author named Amy Logan visited Crosby Elementary School! She read her book A Girl With a Cape which is about a little girl who wears a leopard print scarf as a super hero cape as her reminder to do big things to make the world a better place. She was a former educator and wanted to share this important message that positive deeds have a lasting impact. She launched her campaign several years ago and demonstrates the ripple effect that simple acts of kindness have! Click on her website @ www.GotYourCape.com to learn more.
